Leicester City are no longer on the pedestal they were on a few years ago. The Foxes shocked the world when they won their only Premier League title in 2016. There were great expectations for the club to move from there to greater heights. Things have not gone to script, and they have struggled to make an impression in the league or in Europe.

Leicester City narrowly missed out on the top four in back to back seasons. The season is close to an end, and the only way the Foxes would play in Europe is if they win the Europa Conference League. The Foxes sit in ninth place, 12 points behind eighth-place Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Leicester City may have decided to start their project all over again. The club wants to sell midfielder James Maddison to fund the strengthening of the squad.

Leicester City put Maddison up for sale

The season has been a rather disappointing one for the Foxes. They failed to build on back-to-back fifth-place finishes in the Premier League. Brendan Rodgers would be disappointed with how the season has panned out for his side.

Winning the Europa Conference League remains the only hope of appearing in Europe next season. Leicester City crashed out of the Europa League at the group stage to become participants in the inaugural Europa Conference League.

With hope fading in the league, they would channel their energies towards winning the competition. They play PSV Eindhoven on Thursday in a quarter-final clash.

A season without form

Leicester City would curse their luck this season. Following a fifth-place finish last season, the Foxes were set to improve on it and challenge for the top four. Things looked on track, but injuries contributed to the club derailing from its goals.

Key players like Fofana, Wilfred Ndidi, Jamie Vardy and Harvey Barnes were knocked out by injuries forcing Rodgers to adjust his plans. They were soon knocked off their perch as their challenge for the top four wilted.

Daily Mail reports there are plans to bring in reinforcements in the summer. According to the report, attacking midfielder James Maddison would be sold to fund the squad's improvement.

Last summer, Arsenal were in for Maddison, but Mikel Arteta later opted for Martin Odegaard, who has proved to be a good buy for the Gunners.

The report claims that Leicester City are looking to offload James Maddison for around £50million as Rodgers has eyes on signing a defender, midfielder and forward to improve hisng line-up.
