Despite the 2021/22 season in its infancy, FC Barcelona have again been linked with English forward Raheem Sterling to the Camp Nou. According to Spanish outlet Sport, Barca could be back for the player in January.

It is not the best of times to be a Barcelona fan. The team has not produced anything to be excited about, and the performance has not been inspiring. Just days ago, head coach Ronald Koeman was forced to comment on rumours hinting about his sack. With all the shenanigans surrounding the team, the club president offers hope and has asked for patience.

Transfer news coming out of the Camp Nou is often taken with a pinch of salt as the club wants to reduce its debt and make the club function properly again. Despite this, there is one rumour that has refused to go away.

The news of Raheem sterling to Barcelona has been around for a while, and just when you think it is dead, it finds a way to resurrect itself.

Unimportant at the Etihad, wanted at Camp Nou

Barcelona was linked to Raheem Sterling in the summer, but the financial troubles that dogged the Catalan giants ensured that the only incomings at the club were free transfers as the club tried to shed some weight.

The club still holds an interest in the English forward, and with his stay at City beginning to go stale, Barca will fancy their chances in signing him come January.

Raheem Sterling has become a peripheral figure at the Etihad as he has played a bit-part role under Pep Guardiola this season.

Sterling’s stock has dropped so much that in City’s pursuit of Harry Kane in the summer, the club was willing to make him a makeweight in the deal. Thea did not sit well with him, but it signifies his reduced importance in the team.

Sterling could make the move

Sterling has made just two Premier League this season, and the forward is unhappy with his bit-part role in the team. The Harry Kane saga in the summer transfer window has made him understand that his situation at the club is no longer about if he would leave, but rather when?

Sterling joined City in 2015 and, after six years at the Etihad, has accumulated 298 appearances that has seen him win three Premier League titles and five domestic cups while helping the team to its first Champions League final last season.

Spanish outlet Sport believe that Barcelona will make a move in January, and the 26-year-old will not oppose a move to Camp Nou. Barcelona are counting on the player’s dissatisfaction with his current situation to get their man.
