Rudiger sends message to Chelsea board over a new contract

Chelsea continue to sweat on several players inside the final six months of their contracts. It is unsure what the outcome will be. 

The Blues remain keen on keeping the affected players at Stamford Bridge. Antonio Rudiger, Cesar Azpilicueta and Andreas Christensen are the affected players.

Chelsea are fresh from their Club World Cup triumph, where they beat Brazilian club side Palmeiras 2-1 in the final. 

The London club are in a race against time to keep the players but face a challenge in agreeing to a deal that will satisfy all parties.

Rudiger has maintained his desire to remain at Chelsea but insists the ball is not in his court. 

Rudiger wants to stay at Chelsea

There is an argument that Rudiger is money hungry. Reports suggest it is why an agreement over a new contract is yet to be agreed.

The veteran defender has debunked it as not being the entire story. The German defender says he is happy to be at Chelsea and wants to remain at Stamford Bridge. He, however, insists that staying at the club beyond the summer is down to the club.

According to Rudiger per the Daily Mail, it is not all about the money, but the German has rejected two contract proposals as he edges closer to the end of his contract with the Blues. He is one of the lowest-paid senior members of the squad. The German earns around £90,000-a-week at Chelsea and is angling for a pay rise.

Antonio Rudiger has received a new contract offer from the Chelsea board. The offer worth around £140,000-a-week is not to the satisfaction of the German. Rudiger wants to be at par with the top earners at the club. Rudiger wants a deal closer to £210,000-a-week.

It remains to be seen whether Rudiger will stay at Chelsea as several clubs hover around the defender.

Not a straightforward affair

Antonio Rudiger has enjoyed a great surge of form since Thomas Tuchel. arrived at Stamford Bridge. Rudiger was instrumental to the club's success in recent months. Thomas Tuchel wants to retain the defender, who has formed a great partnership with Thiago Silva.

The German claims the decision to remain at Chelsea is not as straightforward as suggested. According to the defender, it is not just about offering him money, and he has pushed the ball to the board’s court. He insists it is up to them if a deal is completed.

Speaking with the Athletic, Rudiger says he feels great at Chelsea and is happy at Stamford Bridge. Rudiger pointed to his form as a sign of his state of mind at Chelsea. He said the way he plays shows that he is happy at the club, but others make the decisions.

Rudiger spoke after Chelsea won the Club World Cup. He said he wants to stay at Chelsea. He wants to win the Premier League.

Rudiger is revelling in the Club World Cup victory. It is a tournament Chelsea has never won before now. For now, Rudiger targets the Premier League.
