The seeds Ole Gunnar Solskjaer planted at Manchester United have grown into a big strong oak tree. Incompetence and mediocrity reign in the squad, with many players not earning their keep. Several United players are not at the standard required, and it speaks negatively of the club.

The Red Devils lost their last game away to struggling Everton, with fingers pointed in differentctions. The interim manager believes the squad does not deserve Champions League football.

While the Red Devils may miss out on the UEFA Champions League, there are senior figures who believe Cristiano Ronaldo is hindering the team. They want the Portuguese star to leave the club in the summer.

Ronaldo is unwanted at Old Trafford

United have been a rudderless boat, sailing in differentctions without a plan. The club has not made signings based on a pre-planned style of play. For instance, the club signed Jadon Sancho, who thrives on the right-wing and dumped him on the left-wing.

The confusing situation at Old Trafford led Louis van Gaal in advising Erik Ten Hag not to sign for the Red Devils. With fingers pointed at everyone but the board, the latest man on the chopping block is Cristiano Ronaldo.

Several reports suggest some senior figures at Manchester United believe Cristiano Ronaldo is pulling the project backwards and should go in the summer. The Portugal international rejoined Manchester United from Juventus in the summer. He has not been at his prolific best but remains the club’s top scorer with 12 Premier League goals. The former Real Madrid star has come under criticism for his lack of work rate. They believe he is the reason United have been struggling this season.

The Daily Mail claims some board members at Manchester United believe Ronaldo’s exit would benefit the club. According to bookmakers, Erik Ten Hag is the favourite to be named United boss and would find it challenging to accommodate an ageing Ronaldo in his coaching style.

A new era at United?

Erik Ten Hag is close to becoming the manager at Manchester United. The arrival of the Dutchman should signify a new era, as the Ajax manager is known for building teams that are dynamic and play high-octane football. The belief is that 37-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo would not fit the style.

There are figures within the United hierarchy that want to encourage Ronaldo to find a new club, despite still having a year left on his current contract. The final decision on Ronaldo rests with Joel Glazer.

It is a delusion to think Cristiano Ronaldo is the problem at Old Trafford. Several players in the squad have contributed to the fall of United before the arrival of Ronaldo, and they need to leave. Players like Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan Bissaka, Luke Shaw, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford have been abysmal. They have been symbols of failure at the club and should be part of a clear-out at United.

After the defeat to Everton, David De Gea was critical of his teammates. He claimed they lacked motivation.

Manchester United last won a trophy in 2017, under the reign of Jose Mourinho, a man hounded out of the club for speaking against the dross at United. Another season without a trophy is on the cards for United.
