Pau Torres attracts interest from Premier League sides once again

Torres has proven to be a dependable defender and may be playing his last days for Villarreal.

The 25-year-old has made a name for himself after his consistent displays over the past two seasons. It was only a matter of time before top clubs came for his signature, but Villarreal were able to rebuff those offers.

Ahead of the summer window, the need for a defender could intensify, especially in the Premier League. Top guns from the English top-flight have shown interest in signing Pau Torres, and it is gathering pace. This time around, the Spanish side might be forced to sell one of their best players, as reports suggest they will welcome thea of a sale this time around.

Premier League clubs interested in Pau Torres

A few years ago, Villarreal defender Pau Torres was an unknown entity, but he now commands respect from several quarters. He has paid his dues, and the money totting Premier League clubs are willing to take a punt on him. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, several sides in the English top-flight are interested in landing his signature.

Part of the interest in the defender depends on his release clause, which would be valid this summer. Romano tweeted that Pau Torres is available this summer for £60 million. For a defender of his quality, it is an affordable figure for most clubs.

Villarreal might not have the financial prowess to keep Torres from leaving in the summer. The Yellow Submarines will have to take care of the tie against Liverpool. Villarreal sees a place in the Champions League final beckoning, and it represents a massive achievement outside their Europa League conquest of last year.

Top-quality, affordable cost

Pau Torres has come a long way from his days on loan at Malaga in the second division. He helped Villarreal to the Europa League last season, the first European trophy for Villarreal. Since then, his stock has risen. He has become a member of the Spanish national team, where he has 17 caps.

A price of £60 million is not a figure to deter some of the heavyweights in England. Any club that trumps up the cash can avoid a summer-long transfer saga. The question is - who are the clubs interested in uprooting Torres from England?

There are currently three clubs in the running for Torres. The defender has links to Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea. Chelsea seems to be more in need of his services than the other clubs. With Rudiger on his way to join Real Madrid, Chelsea need reinforcements in defence.

Manchester United also need a defender like Torres, as big money defender Harry Maguire has been a massive flop. Erik Ten Hag would also look to overhaul the defence.

Manchester City are not desperate for a defender but could do with some extra quality in depth.

As it stands, bookmakers have Chelsea as the favourites to sign the defender, but the Blues’ financial situation amid the takeover uncertainty could yet hinder those plans.
