Erik Ten Hag has emerged top of the bill to replace Ralf Rangnick.

The three failed years of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer are gradually becoming a tale of the past as United fans look forward to a better future. Despite the arguments made for the Norwegian gaffer, he left the Red Devils in a worse state than he met it. In his three years at the helm, United failed to win any silverware, falling at the semi-final and finals of several competitions to inferior sides.

Under Ole, it was supposed to be a reboot, but it never went as planned. The German gaffer is working on an interim basis to steady the ship before a permanent manager arrives. Rangnick is gradually putting the boat on a steady keel.

Some of the Solskjaer depended on have seen their place in the team threatened. Luke Shaw, Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka as the main casualties. Some have clamoured for the captain’s armband to be taken off Harry Maguire, but Rangnick believes it is a decision to be made by the incoming coach. The German’s decision comes off the back of letting the board know that the three defenders are not United quality.

The Red Devils are shopping for a new manager with several names popping up. Top of the bill is Erik Ten Hag.

United eye Ten Hag

Manchester United have made minor improvements since Ralf Rangnick arrived. The interim manager of the Red Devils is doing his bit to steady the ship at Manchester United before a permanent manager comes in to continue the work he hasd.

The race for the Old Trafford top job (if there was any) is on with United looking up several names. Mauricio Pochettino and Erik Ten Hag are two names that have come up as potential replacements for Rangnick.

As per the Mirror, United seem to prefer Erik Ten Hag, and the Red Devils are keen to bring the Dutch manager to the Theatre of Dreams.

Mauricio Pochettino is keen to return to the Premier League, with the looming figure of Zinedine Zidane hanging over him. The Argentine would like to take over the United job.

Meanwhile, Ten Hag has led Ajax back to the top of the Eredivisie with a bucket full of goals and conceded very little.

Defensive woes and a case for Ten Hag

Before Rangnick arrived at Old Trafford, Manchester United was conceding goals aplenty. The main components of their defensive woes are Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw and Aaron Wan-Bissaka. The English boys were the fulcrum upon which Solskjaer built his defence.

United have conceded a staggering 30 goals from 22 games. There are improvements defensively with Rangnick installing Diogo Dalot and Alex Telles in the defence while keeping Maguire on the bench for some matches. They have conceded six goals in their last six games while scoring ten.

Ten Hag has jumped to the top of United’s desirables following the defensive record Ajax boasts. Ten Hag was approached by several Premier League sides this season, but he turned them down.
