Lionel Messi and Barcelona have reportedly agreed to a new contract to keep the six-time Ballon d’Or winner at the club for the next two years.

Messi’s future has been shrouded in mystery for much of the last 12 months after he demanded that he be let go by the club at the end of the 2019/20 season. According to reports, the football player had fallen out with the then Barcelona board led by Josep Maria Bartomeu.

The mystery surrounding Messi’s future has, however, been resolved in the wake of the news of the contract extension. As we mentioned earlier on betpack, the deal was pretty close to being finalised.

The Argentine superstar’s current deal with Barcelona ends in two days, and he is currently on international duty with his national team at the Copa America. Barcelona, who is desperate to keep the club’s star man, has reportedly offered a new deal, and he has agreed to the terms of the deal.

Laporta does his best to keep Messi

Joan Laporta, the new Barcelona President, promised he would do everything he could to tie Messi down to a new contract. Laporta made this promise while he was announcing his candidacy for the position of Barcelona President. He also reiterated the pro

mise after he won the election and became the new Barcelona President.

Laporta, on his return as Barca President, said, “I take the opportunity to say again that I will try to convince Leo to stay with us. That is a must-do task, and I will do all I can. He knows it.”

“Whatever he does will be OK, but we will try to make him stay because he is the best player in the history of football,” Laporta added.

The news of Messi’s contract extension follows other deals completed by Barcelona this summer. Amongst these deals are the signing of Manchester City’s duo of Sergio Aguero and Eric Garcia, who joined the Spanish giants on a free transfer. Lyon forward Memphis Depay also joined the club on a free transfer.

Lionel Messi is Barcelona’s highest goal scorer of all time, and he will go down as the greatest Barcelona player of all time and arguably the greatest in the game. After this breaking news, bookmakers have significantly increased the potential of Barca’s La Liga championship in the next season.
