Dest is, however, not interested in a move away from Camp Nou.

Barcelona fans will sit back and, perhaps, rue the day Josep Bartomeu took over as president of Barcelona. The former Barca president plunged the club into a myriad of problems, top of it being the humongous debts he accrued for the club.

Bartomeu signed many players and put them on gigantic wages. Performances on the pitch have not been heartwarming. It has been far from what Los Blaugrana are used to, bringing about the sacking of a few coaches, namely Quique Setién and Ronald Koeman. The arrival of club legend Xavi Hernandez has done little to ameliorate the situation.

Barcelona are in need of top-quality players if they are to rehash a semblance of the famed Tiki Taka that brought them plenty of glories.

The financial situation of Barcelona means some players have to leave to allow for quality reinforcements. Offloading players happens to be the trick. Barcelona have several targets and have put some players on the market to achieve this. Some of the players up for sale are Phillipe Coutinho, Samuel Umtiti, and Sergino Dest.

While Barcelona may be thinking of shipping out Sergino Dest, the American is proving a hard nut to crack. The right-back is not interested in leaving the club, despite falling behind Dani Alves.

Barca want to sell Dest, but the American wants to stay

Barcelona made the acquisition of Ferran Torres in the winter transfer window. The Spanish forward arrived from Manchester City in a deal worth €55 million, plus €10m in add-ons. They can’t register the player unless they offload some players to make room for him.

Sergino Dest is one of the players Barcelona want to push out the door. They are open to selling the American right-back to balance their books. With Dani Alves already first choice with a meager salary of €155,000 per year, Barcelona are keen to offload Dest.

Dest agent Michael Reschke Spoke with Bild, per Marca, saying Dest has no intention of changing clubs.

Foreign interest for Dest

Barcelona can do with the funds that would come in from the sale of Sergino Dest. The US international has attracted interest from several clubs. Chelsea are one of the clubs looking to acquire the right-back to fill in for Reece James, who is out for six to eight weeks.

Atletico Madrid is another club that is interested in signing the player. Diego Simeone wants to bring the American to the Wanda Metropolitano following the departure of Kieran Trippier to Newcastle. Bayern Munich have also been long-time admirers of the right-back and might make a move for him.

Sergino Dest has made 16 appearances for Barcelona this season, with 12 coming in the La Liga Santander and four in the UEFA Champions League.
