Romelu Lukaku makes sensational U-turn on Chelsea move

Romelu Lukaku is ready to make a stunning return to Chelsea after extensive offers so far for his services.

The Belgian marksman had poured cold water on a Stamford Bridge move last week, as he claimed to be very content with reigning Serie A champions Inter Milan.

However, a report from The Sun now says that Lukaku still has a burning desire to play for Chelsea and is now eager to secure a return. Inter are asking for a minimum of £100million to do a deal for their star forward, as they look to balance the books and pour cold water on the financial struggles caused by the global pandemic.

The European Champions are reported to have made two attempts to re-sign the 28-year-old in recent weeks, with their most recent attempt being a £88m move plus Marcos Alonso for the big Belgian. However, this was rejected by the Nerazzurri. As of last week, Inter’s stance firmly claimed that they were not considering selling their talisman. However, that could all change for the right price.

Chelsea are expected to try again with a third attempt, in a deal which would be impossible for Inter to turn down, prompting a return to England for Lukaku.

The striker made only 15 appearances during his three-year stint in London before he completed a £28m transfer to Everton via loans at West Brom and Goodison Park. His goal-laden performances with the Toffees earned him a mega £75m switch to Manchester United in 2017 before opting for another challenge two years later at Inter.

Lukaku’s game has since reached new levels where he led the San Siro side to a first Scudetto since 2010 last term. However, the Italians can’t do similar exploits to that of Thomas Tuchel, who led Chelsea to win the Champions League in stunning fashion last season. Inter have undergone fundamental changes since that title win in May as Antonio Conte announced a shock resignation from his role. Elsewhere, a host of players, including Ashley Young and Achraf Hakimi have moved on. Lukaku could be the latest to seek an exit for a bigger challenge.

Chelsea have finally gotten their man

Chelsea are eager to compete for the Premier League title this season, and the acquisition of Lukaku makes them strong contenders alongside Manchester City and Liverpool.

The Belgian has remarkably improved his physique, linkup play, and the prolific centre forward is undoubtedly one of the best strikers in the world right now. Lukaku duly starred at Euro 2020, scoring four goals to further increase his tally as the country’s record goalscorer.

There is no doubt that this transfer would be good for all parties; Lukaku has enough motivation to go back to Chelsea, is in the form of his life and can lead the club’s unquenchable thirst for silverware.

Tactically, he also immediately fixes the desperate goalscoring problem of Tuchel’s team and can lead this group of players like hisl, Didier Drogba, did in these colours.

Pertinently, Lukaku would look to recreate the role of the focal point, first line of defence and goal-getter, much like he did in a similar 3-4-3 setup under Conte.
