Real Madrid are enjoying a fantastic season. Los Merengues are four points away from winning their 35th La Liga title and have also progressed to the semi-final of the UEFA Champions League. Things can only get better for the capital club. Real Madrid are five matches away from winning a double, and it could yet happen.
Los Blancos have been efficient on the pitch rather than spectacular, but it has been enough to put them in a position of winning silverware this season. While the team is led by Karim Benzema and powered by the brilliance of youngsters like Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo Goes, Fede Valverde and Asensio, the board is looking to strengthen the squad this summer.
Florentino Perez is currently locked in bringing Kylian Mbappe to the Santiago Bernabeu this summer. Amid several other targets, Kylian Mbappe remains the crown jewel of what would be a successful summer for Real Madrid. Erling Haaland is another player that has caught the fancy of Los Blancos.
Real Madrid have a strained relationship with Paris Saint-Germain over the interest of Los Blancos in Kylian Mbappe. The Qatar-backed club had hoped to build its project around the Frenchman.
Despite PSG offering Mbappe what amounts to moving the earth to keep him at the Parc des Princes, Real Madrid are quietly confident in landing their man, as per Daily Mail, cited by PSGTalk. Los Blancos believe it is a matter of when rather than if the French forward would join them in Spain.
Another player with links to Real Madrid is Erling Haaland. The Borussia Dortmund player has been the target of many teams and is likely to leave the BVB this summer. Real Madrid harboured faint hopes of landing the Norwegian striker alongside Mbappe. However, odds from bookmakers hint that Haaland is on his way to Manchester City.
Bringing Mbappe and Haaland to Real Madrid is one that comes with its challenges for Los Blancos. It is common knowledge that Real Madrid have always been interested in signing Mbappe. Los Blancos joined the queue upon news of the availability of the Norwegian in the summer.
Financial constraints also limit Real Madrid from signing both stars amid their other needs. While Real Madrid would have been interested in signing Haaland, the incredible form of Karim Benzema put such thoughts in the cooler. Haaland is a future replacement for Benzema, not for an immediate change.
Benzema, who has positioned himself as a firm candidate for the Ballon d’Or, is Madrid’s top striker.
The arrival of Mbappe would not constitute many challenges for the manager as Mbappe could play on the left, while Vinicius plays on the right and Benzema through the middle. Haaland would be more problematic as one of the front three would have to be rested.
Regardless, the strain of bringing Mbappe to the Spanish capital may prove too much for Real Madrid.
