Newcastle hope to sign Willock as Emile Smith Rowe signs new Arsenal deal

Newcastle United believes they can bring Joe Willock back to St. James Park as Emile Smith Rowe's contract could hasten their talks with the 21-year-old. 

Joe Willock made his Arsenal debut in 2017, but the midfielder always found it difficult getting into the team. He made 40 appearances for The Gunners before deciding to get game time at Newcastle last season. 

Emile Smith Rowe's new contract and new jersey number 10 have Newcastle on alert for their constant want of Joe Willock. A youngster who is reportedly supposed to compete with Smith Rowe for a place in the team. 

Smith Rowe scored four goals and provided seven assists in 33 appearances in all competitions last season, winning important games and derbies for the Gunners. 

Reports this summer suggested there were many teams interested in Emile Smith Rowe. However, Aston Villa's interest was more significant. 

Aston Villa made an offer of £30 million for the 20-year-old, which Arsenal rejected. The transfer saga between Villa and Smith Rowe eventually ended when the midfielder signed a long-term contract with the North London club.

The news of Emile Smith Rowe's new contract has reinvigorated Newcastle Hierarchy. The Tyneside club believes the report will make way for the signing of Rowe's Arsenal teammate Willock.

Joe Willock at Newcastle 

Willock joined Newcastle on loan halfway into the 2020/2021 season. The midfielder scored eight goals in 14 appearances, firing the Magpies to a 12h place finish with crucial goals. 

Newcastle's Manager Steve Bruce has always shown his admiration for Joe Willock before and after his loan spell with the Magpies. However, Bruce believes the current development in Arsenal could hasten Newcastle's process of signing Joe Willock.
