Amid all the excitement with the ongoing Euro and Copa America, the summer transfer window for some leagues is now open. And several of Europe’s biggest teams are looking to make high-value transactions this year. The latest is Germany international left-back Robin Gosens, who is reportedly eyeing a move to Barcelona from Atalanta B.C.
According to the Daily Mail, Gosens, who played a match-winning role in Saturday’s game against Portugal in the group stages of Euro 2020, has impressed the Valencians so much that the latter approached the player’s advisor about a possible move to La Liga.
The 26-year-old is currently bound by contract till 2023, and Atalanta can extend the duration by another year. However, sources familiar with the story say the club withheld from extending the duration as they’re hoping to go through with the transfer for a whopping €35 million.
Barca Not the Sole Contender
Barca might have a difficult time signing Gosens as several Serie A, and Premier League clubs have their eye on the player. Gosens, who has had a failed tryout with Borussia Dortmund previously, had expressed his desires to play in the Bundesliga in the past. He had shown an interest in moving to Schalke 04, but that seems improbable following the club’s relegation to the second division.
However, the defender isn’t pushing for a transfer just yet due to Atalanta B.C.’s stint with the Champions League in the upcoming season. Then there are Barcelona’s wage woes, with President Joan Laporta claiming that the club is in need of investment.
